Three workers at a construction site at UC San Diego were injured Thursday when they were struck by a hose that was spewing cement, said Paul Lowenberg, public information officer at the university.
At 2 p.m., Pete Curto of La Mesa and John Yeakey, both 33, of Lakeside and Jaime Rocha, 37, of San Diego were working on the roof of the university’s new molecular biology research building when workers lost control of a hose that was pumping cement. The hose continued to spray cement as it snaked uncontrollably, hitting the three men.
The workers were taken to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla. Curto and Rocha were treated for back injuries, and Yeakey was treated for minor bruises, a hospital spokesman said.
