High School Soccer : Monroe Shuts Out North Hollywood With 1st Place at Stake

Gerardo Diaz scored 2 goals and teammates Jaime Leal and Alvaro Perez each scored 1 as Monroe High defeated North Hollywood, 4-0, in a Valley Pac-8 Conference boys’ soccer match Wednesday at North Hollywood.
The victory gave Monroe (9-1-1 overall, 5-1-1 in league play) sole possession of first place in the conference and avenged a 1-0 loss to North Hollywood (9-4-2, 4-1-2) 2 weeks ago.
In other boys’ matches:
San Fernando 1, Kennedy 1--Andrew Munoz gave San Fernando a 1-0 lead at the 10-minute mark of the first half, but Kennedy tied the score in the North Valley League contest 20 minutes later.
Poly 2, Reseda 1--Diego Ramos scored the only goal for Reseda (4-5-3, 0-4-2), the defending City champion, in the Valley Pac-8 Conference match.
Royal 2, Thousand Oaks 0--Matt Brinkman and Dan Morris each scored in the Marmonte League match at Thousand Oaks.
GIRLS
Royal 3, Thousand Oaks 2--Staci Blough scored the winning goal on an assist from Tara Bunker with less than a minute remaining in the Marmonte League match at Royal.
Royal (17-0-1, 8-0) clinched at least a share of the league title.
Grant 3, Cleveland 2--Amanda Walzer scored 2 goals and Tam Williams scored 1 as the Lancers (8-1-2, 4-1-2) won the East Valley League match at Cleveland.
Walzer, a junior striker, has 34 goals, an average of 3.1 a match.
Chatsworth 10, Palisades 0--Kim Costantino scored 4 goals to lead Chatsworth (10-0, 6-0) in a Northwest Valley League match.
