A Fallbrook man was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving Tuesday after he crashed head-on into a van on California 76, near Old Highway 395, killing a 30-year-old San Luis Rey resident, authorities said.
Fernando Morales de la Torre, 28, was driving a car east on California 76 about 10 p.m. Monday at “an unknown, high rate of speed” when he crossed into the westbound lanes and struck a van driven by Lori Renee Johnson, said Sergio Flores, California Highway Patrol accident investigator.
Johnson was dead at the scene, the CHP said. De la Torre was being held and treated at Palomar Hospital in Escondido.
