Mayor Tom Bradley opens his San Fernando Valley campaign headquarters from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at 16851 Victory Blvd., No. 3, Van Nuys.
Councilman Nate Holden, running against Bradley, toured the Lopez Canyon landfill on Thursday. Residents in the northeast San Fernando Valley have complained about the city’s plans to keep the landfill open until the year 2005.
Holden met with with representatives from the Jamaican government on Thursday for the signing of contracts to allow the officials to purchase traffic control signal boxes for only $1 each. The signals will replace equipment damaged by Hurricane Gilbert.
CITY COUNCIL RACES
Councilman Michael Woo on Thursday met with the Valley Heart Homeowners Assn. to discuss transportation and growth in the San Fernando Valley.
City Council candidate Peter Ireland, a candidate in the 3rd District, spoke before the Community College Board of Trustees on Wednesday, opposing use of Pierce College for the San Fernando Valley Fair until a master land use plan is developed with full community participation.
Sponsoring radio station KPWR says write-in City Council candidate Jack McGrath’s five-hour “dancethon” at the Shrine Auditorium is at 5 p.m. Sunday, not Wednesday as previously reported in The Times.
