College Roundup : Irvine Rallies to Defeat USC in Baseball, 8-4

UC Irvine rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead and added two more in the seventh to beat USC, 8-4, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Irvine.
USC (14-5) is ranked seventh in the Baseball America poll. UC Irvine (6-9-1) is unranked.
Freddie Combs opened the sixth with a walk and scored on a double by Jim Koehler, who later scored on an error by shortstop Bret Boone. Ed Luna singled and scored the final run of the inning on a balk to make the score 6-4.
Jeff Haack allowed nine hits over nine innings to get the victory.
In other nonconference baseball games:
Cal State Fullerton 7, Loyola Marymount 5--Fullerton scored two runs in the eighth to break a 5-5 tie at home. John Paboojian reached on an error to open the eighth and went to third on a single by Mate Borgogno. Paboojian scored on a throwing error and Borgogno later scored on an double by Rex Peters. Peters had two hits to advance his hitting streak to 13 games for Fullerton (9-4). Loyola Marymount is 8-5.
Cal Lutheran 5, Chapman 4--Tony Gardena had three hits for Chapman.
In nonconference softball:
Cal State Fullerton 5-6, Cal State Dominguez Hills 0-0--Ann Van Dortrecht (4-1) pitched a no-hitter for Fullerton (8-3) in the second game.
