Authorities have identified an 18-year-old who apparently drowned after disappearing in the surf at Huntington State Beach on Friday.
Juan Manuel Lopez Ordenez, who was from Mexico, was visiting relatives in Los Angeles, according to David Pryor, lifeguard supervisor for the state Department of Parks and Recreation.
He disappeared about 11:55 a.m. while swimming with two friends. Helicopters, boat crews and teams of divers were unable to find Ordenez. The search was hampered by chilly waters, strong currents and waves.
