$10.03 Million Paid for Diamond

SYDNEY, Australia — A Hong Kong diamond dealer has paid the highest price ever for a rough, uncut diamond, the Australian-based operator of the mine has announced.
Bride Oil Ltd, said late Friday in a statement that Chow Tai-fook had bought the 255.61-carat diamond in Antwerp, Belgium, on Thursday for $10.03 million.
The company said it was told by members of the international diamond trade that his was the most ever paid for such a gem. The diamond, found at the Aredor mine in the African republic of Guinea, weighs 51.2 grams (1.8 ounces).
