“California Architecture” by Sally Woodbridge (Chronicle: $35, hardback; $19.95 soft back) is an attractive compendium of the state’s wealth of historic buildings, the results of a 10- year study sponsored by the federal Historic American Buildings Survey and the California Historical Society. Organized by cities, the book offers a detailed catalogue of the state’s landmarks, aided by more than 200 photographs and drawings.
