Softball Roundup : Villa Park, Western Win in Semifinals

Monique Hernandez pitched a four-hitter to lead Villa Park High School to a 6-1 victory over Fullerton in a semifinal game of the Fullerton softball tournament Saturday at Lion’s Field in Fullerton.
Michele D’Amato had three hits, including a bases-loaded triple and a double, and four RBIs for Villa Park, which plays Western Monday for the championship.
In other Fullerton tournament games:
Western 2, Esperanza 0--Western advanced in the winners’ bracket behind Beth Queypo’s shutout.
Magnolia 4, Santiago 0--Magnolia’s Amber Elliot pitched a no-hitter with eight strikeouts to beat Santiago in the losers’ bracket.
In nonleague softball:
Garden Grove 1-5, Ocean View 0-3--Stephanie Smith pitched a four-hit shutout in the first game for host Garden Grove. In the second game, Brandie Novak doubled in two runs to break a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning.
Canyon 12-8, Los Amigos 1-1--The Comanches limited Los Amigos to three hits and two unearned runs in the season-opening doubleheader at Canyon. Canyon’s Sara Roberts gave up a bunt single to the first batter she faced--Renee Hernandez--and didn’t allow another hit the rest of the way. Kristin Heizer pitched a two-hitter in the second game. Canyon first baseman Tina French had five hits and four RBIs on the day. Krissy Kyriazis had three hits and scored four runs.
