MANILA — Quezon City officials said Sunday they are turning the municipality into a “non-smoking city” by imposing the country’s toughest anti-smoking regulations.
Under a new ordinance, smoking is banned in most public places, including buses, restaurants, government offices, hospitals and theaters.
Violators who smoke in public places that are not designated smoking zones face $10 fines, 10-day jail sentences, or both. Quezon City has a population of more than 1 million and is just outside Manila.
