Two auto theft suspects attempting to elude a police pursuit drove the wrong way on the Pasadena Freeway early today and collided head-on with another car, killing themselves and a woman who was driving the other car, according to investigators.
Police said the chase, which began at 4:25 a.m. in the Rampart area, went east on Olympic Boulevard, north on the Harbor Freeway through downtown and then northeast on the transition road to the Hollywood Freeway. When the suspects suddenly made a U-turn and headed north in the southbound lanes of the Pasadena Freeway, the officers quit the chase, but moments later they heard the sound of the crash, the investigators said. The suspects were not immediately identified. The woman was identified as Victoria Velderrain, 32, of Glendale.
