WWII Killing of Polish Soldiers

In Letters (March 5), under the title “Racial and Religious Intolerance in County,” Jay Burchett has a letter in which he states that “ . . . Soviets murdered hundreds of Polish soldiers. . . .’ I believe that Burchett is referring to the massacre in the forests of Katin.
However, records show that over 14,000 soldiers, educators, scientists and members of the medical community were also herded and executed by the Soviets in this presently off-limits forest.
The Soviets tried to blame these deaths on the Germans. Only after the war, when a representative sample of bodies was dug out, was it noted that the bullets taken from the backs of the skulls were Soviet-made. This forest is presently guarded and no one is permitted to enter.
