IN BRIEF : ABC Leads in Emmy Nominations

NEW YORK — ABC, with 27, topped the list as the three major networks dominated nominations for Sports Emmys announced today by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
NBC had 24 nominations and CBS 21 as the Big Three accounted for 72 of the 92 nominations in six major categories. ESPN cable had seven, Public Broadcasting six, syndicated shows got five and Home Box Office received two.
Both ABC and NBC were nominated for their Olympic coverage--ABC for the Winter Olympics from Calgary and NBC for the Summer Games from Seoul.
The coverage of most of the year’s other major sports events was also nominated in different categories, including the NCAA basketball tournament (CBS); Monday Night Football (ABC); the World Series (NBC); the baseball playoffs (ABC); NBC’s regular-season baseball series and CBS’ regular-season football package.
The Emmys will be awarded in New York on April 10.
