In other Hilltop-Moose tournament games:
Chula Vista 7, San Marcos 1--Alex Garcia hit a two-run homer and a two-run, bases-loaded single to lead Chula Vista (1-3) at home. The Spartans’ Garland Phillips (1-0) scattered five hits. San Marcos is 0-4.
Helix 6, Poway 2--Gary Maler allowed only one hit while striking out five in 6 2/3 innings. He was supported by Spike Mitchell’s first-inning, two-run double and by a sixth-inning bases-empty home run from Erik West.
El Capitan 5, Hilltop 2--Zak Solomon hit a triple sending two men home in the bottom of the sixth to secure the victory for El Capitan (2-2). Solomon was two for four with three RBIs. Jeremy McCarity (2-0) was the winner. Hilltop is now 0-4.
USDHS 4, Escondido 3--Gavin Millay was two for two with a base hit in the first inning to drive in the first run and a base hit in the fourth to drive in the second. Millay was the winner for USDHS (4-0). Escondido is 2-2.
Reyman Pirate tournament
Grossmont 17, Oceanside 0--Mark Gapski had a perfect game until Oceanside third baseman Steve Larson’s one-out, bad-hop single to left in the sixth. Gapski and Joe Lennon, who pitched the seventh, faced the minimum 21 batters after Grossmont turned a double play in the sixth. Gapski (3-0) had five strikeouts.
Leading the offense were Joe Donlon (two for four with a home run and four RBIs) and Greg Layson (four for six and four runs).
Crawford tournament
Crawford 14, Christian 7--Todd Davis had three doubles in three at-bats, scored two runs and drove in one for Crawford (3-1). Marv Hartman had a single, double and homer for Christian (1-4).
Morse 15, University City 3--Sergio Guzman was three for four with a triple, one RBI and two runs scored for Morse (3-1). Chris Nelson was the winner (1-1). University City is 1-3.
Nonleague
San Pasqual 9, Rialto Eisenhower 3--Mike Escarcega had four hits and four RBIs in four at-bats to lead San Pasqual (4-1) attack at home. Escarcega is 11 for 12 with six RBIs.
Torrey Pines 5, Bonita Vista 4--John Lynch’s two-run hit in the sixth broke a 3-3 tie for Torrey Pines (2-2). Brian Hochleuter was the winner (2-0). Bonita Vista is 2-5.
