LAKEWOOD — An armored car guard was slain today in a shoot-out at a supermarket with a robber who then killed himself after deputies arrived, authorities said.
The shooting occurred about 9:45 a.m. inside a glass-enclosed entrance of a Von’s market at 4001 Hardwick St., Deputy Bill Wehner, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman, said. Customers and employees were in the store when the shooting erupted, but no one was injured.
The name of the guard who worked for Armored Transport of California Inc. was not immediately available. When deputies entered the store the gunman was lying near the doorway with a self-inflicted wound. He died en route to a hospital.
