Julie Croteau of St. Mary’s College, a Division III school in St. Mary’s City, Md., became the first woman to play in a college baseball varsity game.
The 18-year-old second baseman from Manassas, Va., who failed to earn a spot on her high school baseball team despite a good tryout and a failed lawsuit, went 0 for 3 against Spring Garden College, but that was no worse than her teammates, who managed only one hit among them. She handled six fielding chances without an error.
