IN BRIEF : Austrian Beats Odizor in Singles

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. — Thomas Muster of Austria, the highest seed to play today in the first round of men’s singles at the International Players Championships, swept Nduka Odizor of Houston 7-5, 7-5, 6-3.
Muster is seeded seventh. Five of the 10 top-ranked women and five of the 10 top men are entered in the tournament, but most had today off.
In women’s play, No. 8 Katerina Maleeva of Bulgaria edged Nathalie Herreman of France 7-6, 1-6, 7-5. No. 11 Helen Kelesi of Canada beat Silke Meier of West Germany 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
