More than 42,000 trucking terminal operators in California have begun receiving notices of a new Highway Patrol inspection program aimed at reducing trucking accidents, the CHP said. Under a new state law, trucking terminals will be inspected every two years to determine motor carriers’ compliance with state and federal safety laws and regulations. “Trucks are involved in too many accidents in this state,” CHP Commissioner Maury Hannigan said. “In 1988, commercial vehicles comprised under 4% of California’s registered vehicles, yet they caused or were involved in over 7% of the traffic accidents.”
