Leuzinger Beats Estancia for Tourney Title

Sophomore Marvin Johnson hit a two-run homer to cap a six-run sixth inning and lift Leuzinger over Estancia of Costa Mesa, 6-4, in the championship game of the Costa Mesa Baseball Tournament on Wednesday.
The Olympians (6-2-1) took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh, when Estancia (7-4) rallied for all of its runs. Reliever Jose Silva, who entered the game with one out and the tying run at the plate, ended the comeback by getting the last two batters to ground out.
Silva’s heroics preserved the victory for starter Tavo Lopez, a junior who shut out Estancia through six innings.
Leuzinger, which went 4-0 in the tournament, snapped a scoreless game in the sixth on run-scoring singles by Alex Sanchez and Carlos Rodriguez, an RBI double by Tyrone Scott and a wild pitch that allowed Tom Gordon to score. That set the stage for Johnson, who also homered in Leuzinger’s 14-4 semi-final win Tuesday over Capistrano Valley.
In that game, senior left-hander Scott pitched a two-hitter and struck out 10 batters.
