Mike Jenkins scattered four hits, struck out four and walked three as Simi Valley High defeated Mountain View St. Francis, 12-1, in the championship game of the Serra tournament at Serra High on Thursday.
Jenkins (2-0) did not allow a runner to reach second base until the seventh inning, when an unearned run denied him a shutout.
The victory was the eighth in a row for the Pioneers (12-1) and their fourth rout during the four-day tournament in which they outscored the opposition, 48-5.
Jenkins hit his first home run--a two-run shot--in the third, and Jeff Sommer hit his second home run--a three-run blast--in the fourth for Simi Valley. Teammates Jesse Anguiano and Terry Hill each had two hits and two runs batted in. Hill stole home with two out in the first inning to give Simi Valley a 2-0 lead.
Simi Valley’s Andy Hodgins, who was eight for 12 with two home runs, 12 RBIs and six runs scored, was selected as the tournament’s most valuable player.
