Fire Stopped Before Spreading at Center

A fire on the verge of spreading throughout a shopping center was discovered and contained early Saturday morning at the corner of Mabury and 17th streets in Santa Ana.
“Another 15 minutes and we’d have been in a lot of trouble,” said Battalion Chief Tim Graber of the Santa Ana Fire Department.
The fire, which started in an electric sign at the front of The Wok, a Chinese grocery store, was about to burn through into the attic common to the entire shopping center when fire units arrived, Graber said.
He said three other businesses suffered minor smoke damage.
