Marty McWhinney has been named football coach at Foothill High School, Athletic Director Jim Ryan announced Wednesday.
McWhinney replaces Jerry Howell, who coached the Knights during the 1987 and 1988 seasons. Howell resigned in February.
McWhinney, 45, has been a voluntary assistant at Cerritos College the last two years, Ryan said. Before that, McWhinney compiled an 88-34-3 record in 12 years as coach at La Canada and El Rancho high schools.
His La Canada team won a Southern Section Northwestern Conference title in 1979.
He will be on campus part time the rest of the spring and assume a full-time teaching position in the fall.
