Miller and Filer Receive Top Honors

ANAHEIM — Courtie Miller and Monica Filer took top honors for San Diego County at The Times’ all-county basketball awards banquet Sunday at the Anaheim Hilton and Towers.
For the second consecutive year, Miller of Torrey Pines was named boys’ player of the year. Filer of Point Loma was selected the girls’ player of the year.
Neville Saner, who led Poway to the Division I San Diego Section boys’ title, and Joe Bess, who led Ramona to the Division III girls’ section championship, were named coaches of the year.
Miller, a senior forward, was a three-year starter at Torrey Pines and averaged 21.1 points, 10.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.1 blocks to lead the Falcons to a Division II section title.
Filer played on two state basketball championship teams and set a state record with 390 assists this season, giving her 773 for her career.
