Purpose of the Jimmies

In her March 29 article on the Media Awards given by the Assn. of Asian-Pacific Americans Artists (“Jimmie Awards Mark Dispelling of Race Stereotypes”), Claudia Puig mistakenly reported that the Jimmies honor “best” play, “best” TV series, etc. Actually, the awards are more of a symbol of encouragement for progress in the entertainment industry, recognizing the companies, producers and individuals who present honest portrayals of Asian-Pacific Americans and their culture.
