Laguna Beach’s Late Trolley Defended
The Philistines of the Orange County Transportation Commission have struck again, doing away with the Laguna trolley. That was undoubtedly the most pleasant public transportation in all of Orange County. It was really an entertainment to ride the trolley; both children and adults thought it was great fun.
By using their uninspired bean-counting techniques, the OCTD would probably recommend doing away with the San Francisco trolleys as well. Public transportation should not be organized solely on the basis of cost analysis; rider appeal should be computed as well. If the pleasures of riding the trolley could, in a day, keep 100 cars from clogging the crowded streets of Laguna Beach, the trolley has paid for itself.
