Volunteers’ Value
The news we read each day chronicles the many problems facing our society--crime, pollution, substance abuse, disease, poverty and child abuse.
Every week, millions of Americans voluntarily contribute their time and talents to eliminate those problems and to support causes in which they strongly believe. These volunteers are not daunted by a challenge, as demonstrated by their efforts to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless.
A recent Gallup poll shows that nearly half of all adult Americans volunteer an average of nearly 5 hours a week. This service is conservatively valued at $150 billion annually.
Let’s honor our volunteers and recognize the tremendous difference they make in our communities and our lives.
