Japanese prosecutors filed bribery charges against a former senior government official and said they will now focus the investigation in the Recruit Co. scandal on politicians. Kunio Takaishi, 59, a former vice minister of education who was arrested March 28, was formally accused of receiving bribes from Recruit and providing favors and information for the publishing conglomerate. He was the 14th person, all businessmen and bureaucrats, arrested in the scandal, which has seriously eroded public confidence in the government of Prime Minister Noboru Takeshita.
