Detroit City Council Member’s Son Seriously Hurt in Drive-By Shooting

DETROIT — The only child of City Council member Barbara-Rose Collins was hospitalized in serious condition Monday with three gunshot wounds, authorities said.
Christopher Collins, 19, was shot in the left arm, chest and abdomen Sunday night as three unidentified men drove past him in a car and opened fire, police said.
His mother, who was elected to the council in 1981, voted against a gun-control ordinance last week. The ordinance would have required Detroit handgun owners to register weapons with the Police Department every three years and take safety training.
Police said the shooting occurred after an argument between the victim and three other men.
