Bechtel May Win Big Pact in Japan: San Francisco-based Bechtel Group is close to winning the largest construction contract awarded to a foreign firm in Japan--a $300-million to $370-million contract to help Fujita Corp. build two geothermal-power plants, it was reported. The contract comes at a time U.S.-Japanese trade friction is mounting. A report released by the Bush Administration on Friday warned of possible retaliation against Japan because of its restrictions on such imports as cigarettes, aluminum and medical devices.
