A California Highway Patrol officer was in stable condition Tuesday at Palomar Medical Center after being struck by a car Monday night, CHP officials said.
Officer Donald M. Mayo and another officer had stopped about 10:45 p.m. on the westbound side of Highland Valley Road, just west of California 67, to investigate an accident.
A westbound car began to slide as it rounded a curve on Highland Valley, traveling up an embankment and then rolling as it came down, striking Mayo, officials said. The 16-year-old driver was uninjured. The accident is under investigation.
