Teams Involved in Brawl Could Meet Again If Playoff Picture Still Clouded

If it has any bearing on the playoff picture, the City Section will reschedule the baseball game between Grant and Reseda highs that was postponed last week in the wake of a brawl between the teams.
City Section Commissioner Hal Harkness rejected the option of ruling the game a loss for both teams, saying that it would be played May 18 if needed. Reseda (4-12) is out of the playoff picture with a 1-11 mark in Mid-Valley League play, but Grant (12-4, 9-3) is battling Sylmar and Poly for the East Valley League title.
The April 25 game between the teams ended after five innings in a bench-clearing brawl. Grant won, 13-1. Last Thursday’s game then was postponed indefinitely while Harkness reviewed reports on the fight from school officials.
School officials at Reseda have barred starters Robert Gauteraux, Ron Stricklin and Joey Tushnet from the team for the remainder of the season. Grant Coach Tom Lucero has refused to discipline any of his players, saying that they acted in self-defense.
