Czech Authorities Ban Pilsen Demonstration

PRAGUE — Czechoslovak authorities banned a scheduled demonstration Saturday in the southwestern town of Pilsen to mark the anniversary of its liberation by U.S. troops at the end of World War II.
Czechoslovak Radio reported that authorities rejected an application by a group of citizens to hold a demonstration. It gave no details.
Most of Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia was freed by Soviet troops, but most of west and south Bohemia was liberated by U.S. forces under Gen. George S. Patton, who halted the U.S. advance in Pilsen on May 6, 1945.
