Community College State Swimming : Orange Coast Women Capture State Title Again

Karen Paulitschek won the 100-yard butterfly in 58.53 seconds at Diablo Valley College to pace Orange Coast to its fifth community college women’s state championship in six years.
Orange Coast scored 451 points, followed by Golden West with 379 1/2, Diablo Valley with 353 1/2, Grossmont with 256 and Santa Monica with 244.
Kris Takayama of Golden West finished second to Paulitschek at 58.68, and Carolyn Bentley of Golden West won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.41.
Golden West and Orange Coast took second and third places in the 200 medley relay at 1:54.58 and 1:55.78, respectively.
In the men’s division, Orange Coast scored 384 points to finish 11 points behind champion Diablo Valley. Golden West took third place with 353 points, followed by DeAnza at 349 and Santa Monica at 160.
Nate Kinney of Orange Coast and Chris Clarke of Golden West took first and second places in the 100 freestyle in 45.81 and 46.48, respectively.
In the 1,650 free, Brian Kingsfield of Orange Coast was the runner-up in 16:01.66.
