Two Orange County musicians are among 19 Californians awarded California Arts Council folk arts partnership grants last week. The grants are designed to support apprentice study with a master of traditional or ethnic arts and crafts. Apprentice and master artist share the grants.
Do Minh Phuong Nga of Westminster will study the dan tranh, a Vietnamese stringed instrument, with Hoaitrinh Vothi of Midway City. They received a $2,370 grant. Phouangphet Souksangouane of Santa Ana will study traditional Laotian music with Bounthan Xayprasith, also of Santa Ana. They received $2,240.
