Santa Ana : 2 Youths Wounded in Drive-By Shooting

Two teen-agers were wounded in the legs in a drive-by shooting at a fast-food restaurant early Sunday, police said.
Sgt. Joe Esther, Santa Ana police watch commander, said he could not comment on whether officers suspect that the incident was gang-related.
Esther said the shooting took place at Tommy’s, 2600 S. Bristol Ave., about 12:20 a.m. He said two male youths, one 17 and the other 14, were standing in the parking lot near a pickup truck when a “small dark car” drove by.
“A passenger in the car, and it’s believed that it was the front-seat passenger, had a gun and fired 5 or 6 shots,” Esther said. One of the shots struck the 17-year-old in the left leg, just above the knee, and another shot hit the 14-year-old in the right leg, slightly above the knee, Esther said.
The two youths were taken to Coastal Communities Hospital, 2701 S. Bristol Ave., for treatment.
