Linebacker Mike Junkin of Duke was made the first round draft choice of the Cleveland Browns in 1987 even though the team knew he had tested positive for steroid use, according to a published report.
Junkin, a disappointment with the Browns, was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs last month for a fifth-round draft choice.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer said the Browns were aware Junkin had taken steroids before they made him the fifth player chosen overall in 1987. The story said a doctor prescribed the medication to aid Junkin’s injured ankle.
