The State : 6 Rodeo Bulls Shot to Death

Six aggressive rodeo bulls were shot to death after they escaped from an overturned cattle truck east of Hanford and, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Jim Gregg, “charged anything that moved.” He said the bulls were hunted down in the dark and destroyed on the advice of their owner, Frank Pires of Strathmore, who told officers, “Don’t try to take them alive, because somebody is going to get hurt.” One of the bulls chased a CHP officer onto the hood of his patrol car and others charged at cars of motorists who happened into the area around California 198. The bulls, valued at $1,500 to $2,000 each, were being driven home from the Riverdale rodeo grounds. Two cows were also destroyed.
