In a clear signal to Israel’s allies, leaders of the Arab world will meet in Morocco on May 23 to back Palestine Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat’s peace approaches to Israel. The Arab League summit also is expected to provide support for the Palestinian uprising against Israeli rule in the occupied territories. The emergency meeting will be the first such session since a Palestinian state was proclaimed and Arafat recognized Israel’s right to exist and renounced terrorism last year.
