P.M. BRIEFING : Ex-Lobbyist Gets 6-Month Jail Term in Pentagon Procurement Scandal

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A former Teledyne lobbyist who is cooperating with the Justice Department’s Operation Ill Wind investigation of Pentagon procurement fraud was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and fined $8,313 today for his role in a scheme to pay bribes for inside information about a defense contract.
Michael J. Savaides, 41, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Claude Hilton on his guilty plea to conspiracy to bribe a public official.
Savaides, a former Washington-based lobbyist for Teledyne Electronics of Newbury Park, Calif., testified as a prosecution witness last month at the trial of three Teledyne executives who were accused of paying bribes to obtain inside information on a $24-million contract.
