GARGOYLES & CHIMERAS: Exotic Works for Organ. David Britton, organist. Delos D/CD 3077 (compact disc). This wily, chronologically arranged program includes much that is indeed exotic--the title piece by Vierne, Michel Corrette’s “Grand Chorus with Thunder,” the “Bolero de Concert” of one Louis-James-Alfred Lefebure-Wely--as well as unduly neglected works such as Saint-Saens’ Prelude and Fugue in C, Opus 109. Most of it is of more than novelty value, and Britton delivers it all with clarity and panache on the large Rosales instrument of Trinity Episcopal Church in Oregon.
