In a freeway gun battle late Thursday night, police pursued armed robbery suspects down the Orange Freeway at speeds more than 100 m.p.h. and chased them into a Fullerton residential area.
Details were sketchy, but according to police radio broadcasts and reports from the scene, the shooting occurred about 9:45 p.m. as the suspects fled south on the freeway. The car chase ended in a crash on the center divider, near Yorba Linda Boulevard, where shots were exchanged and one suspect was wounded. At least two suspects fled to an apartment area near Cal State Fullerton.
One suspect, who ran east of the freeway, was found with the aid of police dogs in a dumpster in the 2000 block of Deerpark Drive and was also wounded, according to a witness. Police were continuing to pursue another suspect, who ran in an area west of the freeway.
No officers were injured.
