P.M. BRIEFING : Vegas’ Message--There’s Gasoline
- Share via
LAS VEGAS — Suppliers today promised plenty of gasoline for local motorists and more than 100,000 tourists headed here over the holiday weekend, despite the loss of a pipeline that provides 90% of the city’s gasoline supply.
Industry officials warned that the situation could change if motorists succumbed to panic buying.
“The people of this town need to be responsible enough to not go crazy and not alter their purchasing habits,” said Jack Greco, chairman of the Nevada Gasoline Retailers Assn.
Concern over the gasoline supply surfaced after an explosion in San Bernardino on Thursday knocked out the Calnev pipeline that supplies gasoline and diesel fuel to the Las Vegas Valley.
Reserves are being trucked into southern Nevada from California refineries 300 miles away.
