A 24-year-old man was shot to death in what police called an apparent attempt to rob him as he walked toward his apartment early Sunday.
The victim’s name was not released by police, pending notification of family.
Sgt. Collie Provence said police received several calls about a shooting at 1:30 a.m. at the sprawling apartment complex at 800 S. Sullivan St.
Officers found the victim lying on the ground, felled by a single gunshot wound to his chest. He was declared dead at the scene. The complex, which Provence said has several hundred units, is in a neighborhood where several shootings have taken place.
“The weapon is believed to be a small-caliber handgun, and the motive appeared to be . . . robbery as (the victim) walked through the complex,” Provence said.
