BOSTON — Marty Barrett, the Boston Red Sox’ second baseman since 1984, signed a two-year contract extension through the 1991 season with a club option for 1992, the team announced.
No terms were disclosed, but Barrett reportedly got a hefty pay increase, from $775,000 this year to a total of $2.2 million for 1990 and 1991.
He has slumped this season after a fine start and is hitting just .262 with 11 doubles, one homer and 17 RBIs.
