Rockets’ Red Glare Will Be Visible Throughout County

Francis Scott Key never witnessed a Fourth of July celebration in San Diego. But today, the city’s skies will resemble the Ft. McHenry battle scene immortalized by Key in the “Star-Spangled Banner.” The rockets’ red glare of fireworks displays will light up the county from Coronado to Santee:

Carlsbad--Tamarack Beach at 9 p.m.

Chula Vista--J Street Marina at 8:30 p.m.; shuttle service to the marina starts from H Street and Palomar Street trolley stations at 7.

Coronado--Glorietta Bay at 9 p.m.

Del Mar--Del Mar Fairgrounds at 9 p.m.

El Cajon--Kennedy Park at 9 p.m.

Mira Mesa--Mira Mesa High School stadium at 9 p.m.

Mission Bay--Mission Bay Yacht Club and Sea World at 9 p.m.; Hospitality Point after Summer Pops concert.

National City--Kimball Park at 10 p.m.

Ocean Beach--Ocean Beach pier at 9 p.m.

Oceanside--Oceanside pier at the barge at 9 p.m.

Santee--Mission Gorge and Cuyamaca streets at 8:30 p.m.

The shows at Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Coronado, Del Mar, Ocean Beach, Oceanside and Sea World will be accompanied by music broadcast on KKLQ-AM (600) and FM (106.5) beginning at 9 p.m.

Other holiday celebrations include road races, parades and a Navy air show in Coronado; concerts by singer Crystal Gayle at the Del Mar Fair; Ol’ Train bluegrass performance in Santee; concerts and a parade in Oceanside, and a “Red, White and Blue Day” festival in Escondido.
