JERUSALEM — The Israeli army said Monday that Palestinians plotted last year to assassinate Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir during a general election campaign.
A spokesman said the army arrested Ahmed abu Mudayeen, of the occupied Gaza Strip, for masterminding the plan and that a prosecutor indicted twins Fawzi and Faez Matawa al Khour, 26, for concealing information about it.
The attack was to take place during Shamir’s visit to a southern Israeli Bedouin village just before the November general election.
