Doctors Reattach Retina of Nun Shot in the Head

HOUSTON — Doctors on Saturday reattached the retina of an elderly nun who was shot in the head last month in El Salvador, but they were unsure whether she would regain significant vision in her left eye.
Sister Mary Stanislaus Mackey was in stable condition at St. Joseph Hospital after three hours of surgery, a spokeswoman said. Mackey was shot in a possible robbery attempt. She had an operation last week to remove bullet fragments.
