President Bush on Volunteerism
If, as someone once said, a nation gets the leaders it deserves, we are in deep trouble.
Although I seriously hope that your report of President Bush’s response to the relatives of the slain civil rights workers was in error, I have a sinking feeling that the article (June 24) is accurate.
It seems obvious that we do not have any nationally elected leader able to take moral leadership in anything.
And lest my letter be taken as a partisan cheap shot, I can hardly support the cowardice of the Democratic Party in its rejection of Jesse Jackson.
