Greek Bank to Be Cited in Suit: National Mortgage Bank of Greece, a Greek bank whose U.S.-based officers are charged with racketeering, is being sued for allegedly bilking depositors of hundreds of millions of dollars. The depositors are filing a class-action lawsuit seeking $1.5 billion in damages from the bank and 14 of its officers, said Constantine Kangles, lead attorney in the suit. A federal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in New York has charged the bank with illegally accepting more than $700 million in deposits from customers in the United States and sending the money overseas to avoid taxes.
