A proposed $75-million sports and entertainment complex will be developed by three private companies, including the entertainment giant MCA Inc., Santa Ana officials said. MCA, the multibillion-dollar entertainment company that owns MCA Records, Universal Pictures and Universal Studios, has agreed to become an equal partner in the 20,000-seat arena to be built near the Costa Mesa Freeway on a 17-acre site on Edinger Avenue with Spectacor Management Group of Philadelphia and King-Guanci Development Inc. of Newport Beach and Boston. According to Antonio G. Tavares, president of Spectacor, the arena partners have selected a consultant to draft an environmental impact report on the site and are “very close” to selecting an architect to design the arena.
